Accessibility

Last updated October 8, 2026

I want this site to work for everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or other assistive technology. The goal is to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What I've done

  • Semantic HTML with a logical heading order, landmarks and a skip link.
  • Every interactive element works with a keyboard and has a visible focus indicator.
  • Text and controls meet WCAG AA color-contrast requirements.
  • Images have text alternatives; the chart is also described in text.
  • Animation is subtle and turns off when your system asks for reduced motion.
  • The layout reflows without horizontal scrolling at 320px width and 200% zoom.

How it's tested

Each change is checked with automated testing (axe-core against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 A/AA rules, and Lighthouse), manual keyboard checks, and layout checks down to 320px wide. Automated tools don't catch everything, so please tell me if something gets in your way.

Known limitations

Videos and papers linked from this site are hosted elsewhere (YouTube, arXiv and others). Their accessibility depends on those services; YouTube videos offer captions in its own player.

Report a problem

If anything on this site is hard to use, email jgardner2051@gmail.com with the page and what happened. I'll reply within five business days and can send any content in another format.
